Romania have achieved the stunning feat of registering the record for the biggest win by run-margin in T20 internationals as they pulverized Turkey’s national side by a mammoth 173 runs at the ongoing Romania Cup 2019. The previous record was held by Sri Lanka who beat Kenya by 172 runs at the first edition of the ICC World T20 in 2007.
Romania batted first and smashed 226/6 in 20 overs thanks to Sivakumar Periyalwar who set up a blazing display of strokes in his unbeaten 105 off 40 deliveries. Turkey could not get off to a stable start and soon started to collapse under the weight of the pressure situation.
They were eventually dismissed for a mere 53 runs in 13 overs with Cosmin Zaviou of Romania claiming 3/4. Man of the match Periyalwar is an Indian-origin engineer by profession, who moved to Romania where he now works in a software company.
