Anderson's Ashes journey ends this year

England’s most prolific wicket-taker in Test cricket, James Anderson has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes series due to his lingering calf injury, depleting the hosts’ fast bowling resources that have already dealt a blow in the form of injuries to Olly Stone and Mark Wood.

Anderson has not bowled in the series since he left the field on the first morning of the Ashes opener where he could deliver just four overs. Since then, Anderson could not get fit in time to make the squad for the subsequent two games.

The 37-year-old Lancashire star had been battling his injury ahead of the fourth game at Old Trafford by participating in his domestic side’s second XI match against Durham but he has been adjudged unfit by the selectors for the last two Tests of the series.
