Former spin legend, Saqlain Mushtaq believes Misbah-ul-Haq should have been given a role in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before being appointed as head coach, as his expertise would have helped in the grooming of the players.
Misbah has applied for the head coach role and he is widely speculated as the chosen one to take over from Mickey Arthur. Mushtaq acknowledged that Misbah can be a good coach but he is of the opinion that the former skipper could still have used a year or two of preparing himself at lower levels.
"Misbah was a wonderful, disciplined and a great player. He served the nation with loyalty and honesty. I think it would be a bit early to appoint him on the post [head coach]. If Misbah had got a year or two in the coaching set up before applying for the head coach job, then it would have been better for him," Mushtaq said.
Mushtaq, who was appointed as England‘s spin consultant in May 2016, claimed: “The learning process goes all your life no matter even if you have the relevant experience on any post. But if you don’t have the relevant experience, then it takes more time to learn.”
