Ahead of the solitary Test match against Afghanistan, Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who leads the national team in Tests and T20Is has revealed that he’s not mentally ready to do the leadership duty. The seasoned campaigner added that he is captaining against Afghanistan only because the team needs it.

Speaking about Bangladesh’s captaincy framework, Shakib said that it is time for a new and young captain to lead the unit. He reflected on his and Mushfiqur Rahim’s leadership tenure as he added that they were handled captaincy early in their career. Shakib also believes that young cricketers won’t get ready unless they’ll be given the responsibility.
The 32-year old further added that he only wants to focus on his performances as a player as he opened up about his second stint as the full-time captain of Tests and T20Is. Moreover, with ICC World Test Championship running and T20 World Cup approaching, the Jessore born player wants his cricket board to focus on these events and plan accordingly.
