The Indian cricket team management has faced a lot of criticism after the exclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin from the playing XI against the West Indies in the ongoing Test series. Many people believed that Ashwin deserved to be in the side for the two games after his brilliant run in county cricket.
The management went with Jadeja in both the games as he has proved to be a useful asset for the team in recent times. Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has clarified the selection call on Ashwin by saying that the Kingston track was more suited to a bowler like Jadeja as it lacked spin.
“The reason why we picked Jadeja in the first Test was in case we fielded, and the track was damp, with his pace, he would have made life a little awkward for the batsmen. He could have been used on the first session of play on day one,” he said.
