The low standards of umpiring in the ongoing Ashes series is no secret given the amount of erroneous decisions made by Joel Wilson, Chris Gaffaney and Aleem Dar across the three Tests. As a result, it seems the International Cricket Council (ICC) has immediately taken strict notice and appointed two new umpires for the remaining games.
International umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Marais Erasmus
Kumar Dharmasena and Marais Erasmus will officiate the last two matches instead of Ruchira Palliyaguruge, who was originally set to perform umpiring duties. This change has been done by the ICC to allow two Elite Umpires to stand in the Old Trafford Test.
The duo was in the spotlight recently in the World Cup final between England and New Zealand at Lord’s when England were apparently awarded six runs off an overthrow instead of five that eventually helped them win the title by the barest of margins.
