A court in Kolkata has issued an arrest warrant against India paceman Mohammed Shami, giving him 15 days to surrender and apply for bail for domestic violence accusations levelled against him by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan. This is the latest legal confrontation involving Shami and his wife.
The judge of the Alipore court issued the warrant around six months following the charge sheet filed by the police. The case against the celebrated cricketer was lodged under Section 498A (domestic violence) and 354A (sexual harassment).
Shami is presently in the Caribbean where he performed brilliantly with the ball for India’s Test team which won the second Test against the West Indies. The 29-year-old was also part of the World Cup squad for India.
