Sri Lanka is expected to tour Pakistan by the end of this month to feature in three ODIs and three T20Is marking the end of a hiatus of international cricket in the country since the West Indies series in Pakistan. The upcoming limited-overs fixtures is the second time Sri Lanka will be visiting Pakistan since their team bus was attacked in Lahore in 2009.
Despite the Sri Lanka Cricket’s (SLC) willingness to send its team to Pakistan, there have been reports of reluctance from some players to make the trip. Minister of Sports Harin Fernando has, nevertheless, reassured the players that if there is an issue over the faith in security, he would travel alongside the squad to help them.
“I can accompany the players just to boost their confidence levels,” he said. This gesture indicates that the tour will go ahead as planned with the Sri Lankan authorities adamant at holding a successful series.
