For a while, Azhar Mahmood was touted as one of the brightest all-rounders on the cricketing horizon. His fantastic batting abilities coupled with his expert seam bowling enabled him to make a name for himself as one of the star players of Pakistan cricket. However, he gradually faded into oblivion owing to inconsistencies but not before he represented Pakistan in 164 international games.
He then had a long stint in county cricket where he was back again in the cricket action recently at the ripe age of 44. The ex-bowling coach of Pakistan turned up for the Green Kings in the Pro T20 competition which features club cricketers all over the United Kingdom.
Having last played a T20 game in 2016 before the start of his coaching experience with Pakistan, Mahmood displayed no signs of rustiness as he smashed an unbeaten 68 and registered figures of 1/24 in 4 overs. A wonderful all-round performance, Mahmood’s form is evidence of his timeless quality.
