After a lot of consideration, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to name their new coaching panel in the next 2 days or so. Former skippers Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis are the frontrunners to take head coach and bowling coach role respectively. While Waqar previously served both as head coach and bowling coach, it would be Misbah’s first stint as Pakistan’s head coach if he gets the opportunity.
Moreover, the governing body of Pakistan cricket will make it clear for the new coaching panel to discontinue their mentorship contracts from Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises. Misbah-ul-Haq who is associated to Peshawar Zalmi while Waqar Younis who serves Islamabad United in Pakistan’s biggest domestic T20 competition will have to bid farewell to their respective PSL teams.
The move took place to address the issue of conflict of interest – a topic which has grabbed a lot of attention as well as the criticism. Previously, Mickey Arthur and Azhar Mahmood worked for Karachi Kings despite being head coach and bowling coach respectively of the national team.
