The appointment of Misbah-ul-Haq in influential roles as the new Pakistan head coach and chief selector has sent shockwaves through the cricket world. The surprising aspect about Misbah’s selection for the dual role is his lack of experience in the coaching capacity.
This point was alluded to by former Australian spinner Brad Hogg, who is wary about the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to give Misbah a dual role. Hogg believed it would have made more sense to have Misbah work his way up to the top rather than acquire the much sought after job.
Hogg suggested the PCB could have opted to give Misbah a coaching position in domestic tournaments with first-class teams or made him an assistant coach on the international level before making him the senior person in charge of all matters.
