Pakistan former captain Misbah-ul-Haq, after being handed the dual role of head coach-cum-chief selector, will be solely responsible for the national team’s selection as well as its performance. This is an innovative step taken by the PCB for the first time.
The dual role, a totally new experiment in Pakistan cricket — has been given to Misbah who was also named head coach. Misbah led Pakistan in a national record 56 Tests and even took them to the No. 1 position in the ICC Rankings in 2016. He is Pakistan’s most successful Test captain with 26 wins.
“The concept of a head coach also being a chief selector is an innovative one and a new introduction to our system. But, while the PCB has further empowered Misbah, it has also put more responsibility on his shoulders,” PCB CEO Wasim Khan said.
