Afghanistan’s top-order batsman Rahmat Shah made history recently to become the first player from his country to score a century in Test cricket. He stamped Afghanistan’s authority in the match against Bangladesh with a magnificent 102.
On a tough pitch conducive to spin, the 26-year-old fashioned exuberant strokes that tamed the potent Bangladesh bowling attack.
Rahmat’s brilliant century shed the tag of Afghanistan not being ready for the highly competitive Test arena showing that the country possesses the batting ability to challenge oppositions.
“Today I got the chance and scored the century. It is a proud moment for me. I am the first person to have the first half-century [in Tests] for the country and now the century,” Rahmat later stated.
