Bangladesh’s star Test spinner Taijul Islam has achieved a fantastic milestone as he became the fastest to claim 100 Test wickets for his country, getting there in his 25th Test appearance.
Entering the solitary Test against Afghanistan with 99 wickets in 24 Tests, the wily spinner bowled a magical delivery to uproot opening batsman Ihsanullah and smashed the record of veteran Shakib Al Hasan who picked 100 wickets in 28 Tests.
The 27-year old cricketer is also the third-highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh only behind Shakib Al Hasan (205 wickets) and Mohammad Rafique (100 wickets).
While it comes across as a major achievement which delighted Taijul, the 27-year old looks hungry to continue his strong shows and help Bangladesh win many games including the ongoing red-ball contest.
Bangladesh looked to tighten their grip on the game claiming three quick wickets, but Afghanistan took advantage of batting first.
For tourists, Rahmat Shah (102) and Asghar Afghan (88*) led the rescue act as both of them looked very composed to register a valiant contribution. Despite an unimpressive start, Afghanistan came back in the game and ended the day being in a strong position.
