Despite losing a valuable year of his cricket career, Australia’s batting ace Steve Smith is ruling the cricketing world with his stunning displays. Scoring three 100-plus scores in 4 innings of the Ashes series, the prolific batsman is making batting look ridiculously easy. As if pummeling England in the first two Tests wasn’t enough, Smith returned to the team and celebrated it by registering an iconic double century.
All this has allowed him to fetch heavy admiration from Ricky Ponting who comes across as a legendary cricketer. Australia’s most successful skipper, while reflecting on Steve Smith’s current form, didn’t shy away from calling the top-order batsman a ‘genius’.
The 44-year old believes that Smith has a game plan which has installed him at a positon where it looks like that opposite teams don’t have any idea about how to bowl against Smith. Ponting expressed his jubilation to see the New South Wales born player making his country proud. In addition, he revealed his desire to see Australia winning the ongoing Ashes series and retain the coveted urn.
