A district court has stayed an arrest warrant against Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami in relation to the case of domestic assault and sexual harassment filed by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan. He is involved in a protracted legal battle with Jahan since last year.

The Alipore Court had issued an arrest warrant against right-arm paceman Shami recently, saying he should surrender within 15 days of returning to the country. The order was issued whilst Shami was busy representing India in the tour of the West Indies.
Shami had challenged the order through his lawyer Salim Rahaman. The charge against the 29-year-old carries a maximum punishment of three-year imprisonment, if proven.
