Afghanistan Under-19s have exhibited brilliant performances in the ongoing edition of the Asia Cup. They have already qualified for the semi-finals after registering massive wins over Pakistan and Kuwait in the Group A.
Known for producing outstanding spin talent, Afghan chinaman bowler Noor Ahmad Lakanwal has been the star of their triumphs. He recorded figures of 10-1-30-4 in the match against India which has made him the joint leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 8 wickets. His spell troubled India and left them reeling at 106/7 at one stage before an unbeaten 22-run stand helped them over the line.
He was only 14 years and 249 days on the day of his 4-wicket haul making him the youngest player with this achievement in Youth internationals, overtaking the previous record held by Pakistan’s veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik. Malik was 14 years and 311 days old when he picked up a four-wicket haul against England in a Youth Test in 1996.
