The upcoming series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which is scheduled in Lahore and Karachi, was jolted by a news coming from the Sri Lankan Cricket Board after their senior players refused to play in Pakistan over security concerns.
10 players including the ODI captain, Dimuth Karunaratne and T20I captain, Lasith Malinga withdrew themselves from the tour considering the security issues. As per compensation, Lahiru Thirimanne and Dasun Shanaka are expected to lead Sri Lanka in the ODIs and T20Is respectively.
Thirimanne has previously captained Sri Lanka in 3 ODI matches against New Zealand back in 2015 in which his side won 1 game and lost 2. On the other hand, the young Shanaka has not led the side before in his career.
The change in captaincies and lack of experience might have drastic effects on Sri Lanka’s campaign in Pakistan. Pakistan vs Sri Lanka series is scheduled at the end of the ongoing month. The 3 ODIs will be played in Karachi while the T20Is will enlighten the Gadaffi Stadium Lahore in the first week of October 2019.
