English captain Joe Root has not had an ideal time in the Ashes so far as he has not only averaged 30 with the bat but has also lost the opportunity to regain the historic trophy. The lack of support from other batsmen has further dented the confidence of the skipper.
Head coach Trevor Bayliss has come out in support of Root as he feels that the right-hander has been the premier batsman for his side throughout the Ashes this year and he does not worry about his batting as he has been targeted quite effectively by the Australian bowlers.
“Everyone goes through periods where they don’t score as many runs as they’d like. I think the Australian team have bowled pretty well to him, so we’ll see how things go further down the line. From my point of view, he was our premier batter and the Australians always try and target the opposition captain,” said Bayliss.
