India’s rising batting sensation Shubman Gill has finally made it to his country’s Test side. Gill has been called into India’s 15-man squad for the South Africa series in the place of out-of-form KL Rahul. The 20-year-old had earlier made his international debut in the 50-over format against New Zealand but failed to register a decent score.
The right-hander’s batting style has often been thought to mirror Indian skipper Virat Kohli while the youngster has also had a fantastic start to his first-class career. Representing Punjab in the domestic circuit, Gill has accumulated a towering sum of 1,443 runs at a steep average of 72.15 across 14 first-class games.
He was also part of the victorious India Under-19 squad in the U19 World Cup last year where he was declared player of the tournament. Although he usually opens the batting, it remains to be seen where Gill will be slotted in India’s combination.
