Pakistan’s upcoming series against Sri Lanka was jolted a bit with the news of many senior players opting out of the tour because of security reasons. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that this move disappointed Pakistani fans as they feel that the charm of forthcoming tour comprising of 3 ODIs and as many T20Is will get dampened.
Recently, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry blamed India for the refusal of Sri Lankan cricketers to visit the country as he brought the Indian Premier League (IPL) contracts into the equation. However, Pakistan’s former cricketer Basit Ali has found himself in a complete disagreement to this narrative.
The 48-year old is of the opinion that there’s no truth to the story of Indian authorities influencing the Sri Lankan cricketers. Instead, he believes that the players are reluctant to visit Pakistan because of their concerns regarding the security of the country. Moreover, he criticized Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for earlier paying extra amounts to foreign stars to travel to Pakistan. With Sri Lankan Cricket Board receiving a warning from Prime Minister’s Office, it remains to be seen what the cricket board decides regarding the tour of Pakistan.
