Losing their first two games against Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders, things looked gloomy for St Lucia Zouks. However, the franchise recorded a stunning comeback against Chris Gayle led Jamaica Tallawahs to secure their first victory of the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
In an important contest of the thrilling tournament, Zouks overpowered Tallawahs by 5 wickets, courtesy of a powerful batting performance led by the bowling all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall. Zouks won the toss and decided to bowl first and restrict Tallawahs to a manageable total – a thing which they did to some extent.
St Lucia kept Jamaica’s daunting batting line-up to 170 runs which, by no means, looked like an easy total. However, Rahkeem Cornwall’s belligerence allowed St Lucia to get far ahead in the chase. Coming to bat as an opener, the 26-year old smashed 75 runs using just 30 balls, registering his third half-century in the shortest format of the game. Rahkeem was further complemented by Andre Fletcher’s cameo which helped Zouks register 2 crucial points. Due to a spectacular batting performance, the Antigua born grabbed the player of the match award.
