An incredible journey of Ashes 2019 has come to an incredible end as England won the 5th and final battle by 135 runs. The host drew the series 2-2 but failed to retake the Ashes title from their counter-team. England batted first and scored 294 runs in the 1st innings courtesy a blitz from Jos Buttler. Following that, Australia managed to score 225 runs and was left with 69 runs short.
In the 2nd Innings, with the help of Joe Denly, Ben Stokes, and Jos Buttler, England put up a score of 329 runs and gave Australia a hefty target of 399 runs. In chase of this mammoth total, Australia’s growth was halted by brilliance from Stuart Broad at the start of the innings when he outplayed Marcus Harris and his Bunny (David Warner) with mind-wobbling deliveries.
Jack Leach, the left-arm off-spinner came into the party and picked up 4 crucial wickets for England. Broad and Leach ended up with 4 wickets each and Australia was bowled out for 263 runs despite Matthew Wade’s resilient knock of 117 runs.
