Pakistani boxer, Muhammad Waseem became the talk of the town when he was not received by anyone from the Higher authorities of Pakistan and fans when the boxer arrived home after defeating the Filipino opponent in 62-second match. The boxing star, Waseem made short work of his Filipino opponent Conrado Tanamor during their 52.5 KG fight on Friday night.
After his arrival, he tweeted about not being too concerned about the welcomes at home but he wants to enhance the reputation of Pakistanis in foreign countries. “I am not fighting to get welcomes at the airport. I am fighting so that Pakistan gets a good welcome all over the world. Every fight, every camp, every training, every tour, is another opportunity for me to show the boxing world the world-class boxing talent Pakistan has”, Waseem tweeted.
Seeing his remarks on Twitter, many people came in support of him including Pakistan’s legendary fast bowler, Wasim Akram. He assured the champion boxer that next time he will receive Waseem himself and apologized to him on behalf of Pakistan.
“I apologize on the behalf of Pakistan, sometimes, we as a country, need to be “smacked on the face” with the fist of reality to wake us up and remind us how we should be treating our heroes. I am picking you up from the airport next time myself, massive congratulations on the win”, Akram tweeted.
