Pakistan’s legendary batsman Zaheer Abbas has expressed reservations over the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to make Misbah-ul-Haq head coach and chief selector of the national side. This has granted the former skipper a lot of power according to Zaheer.
“Misbah was excellent as captain. In his time Pakistan won many great matches and advanced in the rankings as well. The dual role however will grant him too much power. In a way Misbah has become the Chairman of the Board. I am baffled by his contract of three years. If he had performed well in the role, his contract should then have been extended,” he reflected.
Although the PCB aimed at reducing conflicting ideas, this step has made Misbah primarily the judge, jury and executioner in matters relating to the selection of players. The 72-year-old felt a division of powers would diminish burden on Misbah.
