Pakistan Cricket Team has once again turned its benevolence towards Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad as the both players are named in 20 probables for Pakistan vs Sri Lanka T20I and ODI series which will take place in Karachi and Lahore by the end of this month.
Both these players have got immense talent but they lacked consistency over the years, Akmal and Shehzad lost their place in the team with some ordinary performances. Umar was recalled back to the Pakistan’s ODI squad against Australia just prior to the ICC Cricket World Cup courtesy his inexplicable performance in Pakistan Super League 2019, but his dismal performance in the ODI series could not book him a place in the World Cup squad.
On the other hand, Shehzad has not played an International game for almost 2 years now. Misbah-ul-Haq, the newly appointed Chief Selector, has decided to give another chance to these players. This has evoked few reservations in the ranks that why Pakistani management keeps going back to the same players who have not delivered over the years. Moreover, does Pakistan lacks young talent for the International circuit?
This could be the last chance that these players might have and if this move made by Misbah clicks well then it will be a blessing in disguise for Pakistan as they both possesses surplus talent and have the ability to win Pakistan games of their own. With Ahmed Shehzad recalled, Fakhar Zaman will have to improve his form otherwise his position in the team is in peril. Pakistan can utilize Umar Akmal in the depth for his power-hitting abilities. Summarizing it all, only time and their performances will tell that how well this decision, made by veteran Misbah, serve Pakistan.
