After being on the verge of losing the Ashes series, England came back strongly to beat Australia in the 5th Test, drawing the 5-game series 2-2. Nevertheless, it didn’t stop Kangaroos from retaining the coveted urn in England for the first time in 18 years.
While this excited the former Australian great Ricky Ponting, but he was found skeptical about Australia’s overall performance. A major reason of this thought is the dropped chances which ultimately allowed hosts to draw the series. The 44-year old highlighted the missed catches of 2nd and 3rd Tests to reiterate that Australia missed an opportunity to win the series.
Ponting shared concerns about Australia’s batting line-up, particularly the top-order. However, he lauded the Australian bowling line-up for delivering strong performances consistently throughout the series and helping the country retain the urn. Despite the earlier arguments, the Tasmania born said that he won’t undersell the performance of Australia in both the World Cup as well as the Ashes series.
