Former World Cup-winning skipper Arjuna Ranatunga has lashed out at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for their hesitancy in touring Pakistan for the limited-overs series scheduled later this month. SLC had earlier given the green signal to visit Pakistan for three ODIs and as many T20Is but the tour is clouded in ambiguity after a terror threat was intercepted by the country’s PM Office.
However, Ranatunga is not impressed with SLC’s attitude towards Pakistan, especially given the decision of 10 players to opt out of the tour. The 55-year-old claimed Pakistan had earlier helped Sri Lanka when they were in the throes of a bloody civil war and it was now time to repay the kind favour.
"India and Pakistan helped us by playing in Sri Lanka when we had a 30-year war. We need to help Pakistan now. Unfortunately, we don't have a cricket board with a backbone,” Ranatunga said.
