For the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan has announced a list of 20 probable players from which the final team will be selected for both ODI and T20I series. Wicket-keeper Sarfaraz Ahmed has been retained as the skipper of the side while prolific top-order batsman Babar Azam will serve as his deputy.
The decision of retaining Sarfaraz as captain was welcomed by many, but it also attracted backlash as a chunk believes that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) needs to plan for future and appoint a new leader. However, Pakistan’s former great Zaheer Abbas was delighted with this decision as he feels that Pakistan needs to realize and assess their options before making any major move.
In addition to this, the 72-year old advised Sarfaraz to step down from test captaincy as this will allow the dexterous player to focus on the white-ball cricket. Moreover, he wished luck to the green team which is set to begin their journey in the ICC World Test Championship with a 2-game Test series against the Islanders.
