In their opening encounter of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2019 event, Central Punjab faced Southern Punjab in a game which proved to be a run feast before ultimately resulting in a drawn contest. Southern Punjab batted first to score 467 runs in their first innings with Central Punjab mustering 473 runs. However, the lack of time didn’t allow the game to produce a result.
This didn’t go down well with the former Pakistan cricketer Atiq-uz-Zaman who was extremely disappointed with the way two teams played this match. He was able to spot a laborious encounter where both units looked focused on scoring big, without having any plan to push for a victory and thus augment the thrill quotient.
Venting on his official Twitter account, the 43-year old said that the game had new kits, live streaming and social media account, but an old rotten approach which won’t help increase the quality of the domestic cricket of Pakistan. Moreover, he was frustrated to see crowd not turning out to see these games. To strengthen his point, the Karachi born shared clips of first-class cricket from Old Trafford. It remains to be seen what this red-ball competition has in store for us.
