Former Australian captain Steve Smith recently had a brilliant run in the Ashes series against England as he managed to score 774 runs in the 4 games that he played against a top-quality bowling lineup.
The unorthodox right-hander not only gathered praise from all around the world, but he also started a discussion regarding his prospects of being the captain after the end of his captaincy ban.
Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting believes that Smith would become the captain of the national side once again since it would be difficult to not make that call as soon as his ban ends.
“To be capable to me that appears treasure, Cricket Australia has left the gate starting up, so if Cricket Australia thinks or no longer it’s OK then I’m okay with it. I think he knows his role now. But once that ban is lifted, I don't think it will be too long until he's captain again,” he added.
