Cricket Australia (CA) officials are optimistic about touring Pakistan in 2022 but any such decision will be taken after careful deliberation, chief executive Kevin Roberts said. Roberts returned from Pakistan on Thursday after the first trip by a high-level Australian cricket delegation in more than a decade.
“But we will never jeopardize the safety of our people and we will keep taking advice from experts on the way. We have got the next couple of years to hopefully plan for a tour in 2022 but we have just got to step that out gently, bit by bit, rather than rushing into it,” Roberts said.
Australia last toured Pakistan under the captaincy of Mark Taylor, way back in 1998, but has not done so since due to security concerns. Australia is scheduled to play two Tests, three one-dayers and three Twenty20 games in Pakistan in late February 2022.
