Ganguly reviews contenders for India’s No.4 spot in ODIs

Having the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan up front, Indian unit contains a sturdy opening pair. However, same cannot be said about their middle-order as it is usually found struggling. In fact, India’s top three batters form the nucleus of their batting department.

India has been searching for a suitable contender to bat at 4 in ODIs and recently former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly moved forward to share his views on the subject. The 47-year old predicts intense competition as he named Lokesh Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey as India’s potential batting options. Moreover, he added that Rahul will have to go strong as the other two candidates are coming in with a strong case.

“With Rohit and Shikhar at the top as the best possible opening pair, Lokesh Rahul will be pushed. He has lost his place in Test cricket due to indifferent form and the likes of Shreyas and Manish Pandey will keep him on his toes if he wants to hold onto the No. 4 slot,” the cricketer turned commentator wrote in his latest piece on India’s batting framework.
