The Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma has recently been included in the Test squad for the upcoming series against South Africa at home after a couple of other players failed to cement a permanent spot in the side. The limited overs king is yet to make his mark in the longer format as he only averages 39 in 27 Test matches so far.
The former Indian batting great, Sunil Gavaskar has offered Rohit some advice before his return to the Test whites as he said that the right-hander must work on his defenses to succeed in 5-day cricket.
“When we talk about Rohit Sharma, he doesn't have the water tight defence like Virender Sehwag. But he perhaps has more shots than Sehwag. Sehwag would not hit the ball so much on the on side. Rohit can use the pull and hook very well. So, Rohit does have more attacking shots. If he can tighten up his defence against the good balls, he can also be successful like Sehwag in Test cricket,” he said.
