After trying many openers, Pakistan decided to unleash Fakhar Zaman in the International cricket. The experience worked well as the southpaw scored heavily in his debut tournament before utilizing his good form in other games. Moreover, Fakhar became the first Pakistani batsman to score a double-century in ODI cricket.
However, the 29-year old then underwent a rough patch which even saw him performing poorly in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament. In the 8 games of the 50-over event, Fakhar mustered only 186 runs, managing a shoddy average of 23.25.
Despite this, chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq picked him for the Sri Lanka series and backed him to fire in the three-game ODI series. The 45-year old, while explaining his decision, said that Fakhar is an impact player and a genuine match-winner.
He added that he has no plans to waste such a cricketer and would plan efficiently to make sure that they get best out of Fakhar. With National Stadium of Karachi expected to present batting wickets, it would be an ideal opportunity for the Mardan born to reacquire his batting mojo.
