Essex Eagles beat Worcestershire Rapids in the final of Vitality T20 Blast 2019 to register their maiden title. Essex captain Simon Harmer played a match-winning cameo at the end and was crucial with both bat and ball on Finals Day.
Hilarious scenes were on display after Essex was handed the winners’ trophy and the team went for the photo-op. Essex had their two main players missing from the squad – fast-bowler Mohammad Amir and leg-spinner Adam Zampa.
However, they made sure that the missing players didn’t miss out on the final celebration photo as the team used a life-size cardboard cut-outs of Amir and Zampa in the team picture with the trophy. It may not have been enough to entirely cancel out the feeling of missing out that Zampa and Amir must surely have been undergoing, but it warmed most cricket fans’ hearts when the story emerged.
