Jasprit Bumrah has been sidelined from the team owing to a stress fracture in his back. This injury blow will force him out of India's two-Test series against South Africa and thus replaced in the squad by Umesh Yadav.
"The injury was detected during a routine radiological screening. He will now undergo rehabilitation and will be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team,” the statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) read. The team management has often stressed on managing the star bowler’s workload.
Bumrah, who has been performing supremely in the longest format ever since he made his debut last year in South Africa, is ranked third in the official ICC Test bowler rankings while he is currently world's No.1 ODI bowler. He also recently became the second Indian to register a hat-trick.
