With the tour of Sri Lanka nearing, Pakistan is busy in finalizing their preparations for three ODIs and as many T20Is. The tour is to commence with a 50-over contest to be played on Friday in National Stadium of Karachi. As per the reports, newly-appointed head coach Misbah-ul-Haq is likely to retain the opening combination of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq.
In the World Cup 2019 event, Fakhar was able to score only 186 runs at 23.25, while Imam mustered 305 runs to possess an average of 38.12, but his strike-rate came under scrutiny.
While both the openers failed to meet the expectations, it is reported that they will be given the confidence to express themselves against Sri Lanka and reacquire their batting mojo.
This means that the domestic veteran Abid Ali, who scored a century on his ODI debut, will have to wait for his chance. Moreover, Sarfaraz Ahmed is expected to stay at 5 which seals the 3rd and 4th spot for Babar Azam and Haris Sohail respectively.
With Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik being absent from the team, Iftikhar Ahmed is likely to get few games. However, Asif Ali’s belligerence might hinder his way. It remains to be seen how Pakistan fares in the home series against the Islanders.
