Sri Lanka will replace Zimbabwe as the touring side that will visit India in January after the African nation has been suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC). ICC had suspended Zimbabwe’s membership in July for excessive political interference despite warnings by the world governing body.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed in a statement that Sri Lanka will now travel to the country to play a three-match series starting January 5 in Guwahati. The other two matches of this series will be played on January 7 and January 10.
In light of ICC’s decision to ban Zimbabwe’s participation in ICC events, they would not be part of the T20 World Cup next year. They recently played in the tri-nation T20 tournament in Bangladesh, where Afghanistan was the third team.
