Despite being considered as the next big thing of Indian cricket, Rishabh Pant hasn’t blossomed the way he was meant to. While the southpaw showed his prowess in the Test cricket, his white-ball credentials aren’t really justifying his talent. In 12 ODIs, Pant averages 22.90 with bat which further drops down to 20.31 in T20Is.
Moreover, Pant’s shot selection has been under scrutiny as he threw his wicket away at various crucial situations to leave the men in blue in lurch. All this attracted backlash, but he’s also receiving support from the former cricketers. The recent man to join this club is the ex-Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh who believes that Pant is facing a lot of gratuitous criticism.
Dissecting the current scenario, Yuvraj added that the backlash would make Pant lose his confidence – a thing India would hate to see. The 37-year old is of the opinion that the head coach Ravi Shastri and skipper Virat Kohli will have to play a big role in guiding the young gun. Yuvraj also wished luck to Pant as he wants to see him become a strong and reliable performer for India.
