The winning streak of the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots finally came to halt against St Lucia Zouks in the 21st game of the running season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Winning the toss, Patriots kept their mantra of bowling first. However, this time they failed to chase the target of 165, which saw Zouks registering two crucial points in the competition.
While it was a disappointing day for the Patriots, a major positive came in the bowling form of their overseas player Mohammad Hafeez. The Pakistani veteran, who hasn’t been at his best in the West Indian T20 frenzy, came good with leather as he claimed 3 wickets while conceding only 22 runs.
Hafeez dismissed Andre Fletcher, Colin Ingram and Colin de Grandhomme to derail Zouks’ batting department before Darren Sammy’s late fireworks propelled the unit to 165. While the total, by no means, looked out of Patriots’ reach, but they weren’t able to record an impressive batting outing which disturbed their winning momentum.
Patriots will play their last game against Barbados Tridents on September 29 which they would need to win to give themselves a good chance of qualification for the play-offs of the 20-over event.
