South Africa’s opening batsman Aiden Markram seems to be in blistering form as he bludgeoned a terrific century in the practice game ahead of the three-match Test series against India. The classy right-hander punished the Indian Board President’s XI bowling lineup by unleashing magnificent stroke play all around the ground.
He reached his brisk century in just 118 deliveries featuring 18 boundaries and two towering maximums, sending out a warning to Virat Kohli’s India that the tourists need not be taken lightly. Markram was afforded a rest as soon as he reached the three-figure mark with vice-captain Temba Bavuma building on the platform and striking an elegant fifty.
The 24-year-old Markram is one of South Africa’s top players in the longest format and has been churning out runs consistently ever since he made his debut two years ago. He averages a healthy 43.80 after having played 17 games during this time period.
