Sri Lanka interim head coach Rumesh Ratnayake has hinted at a possible tour of his side’s Test team to Pakistan in December. Sri Lanka were originally scheduled to visit Pakistan for a Test series but the board opted for short-form games instead of red-ball matches.
“This [limited-overs] series is a precursor for that [Test tour in December] if everything goes smoothly during the coming several weeks. In fact, it would be a huge boost for Pakistan if our top players come for the Test matches without any fears over security issues in their minds,” Ratnayake said ahead of the second ODI.
He claimed the successful completion of this tour will convince the ten Sri Lankan players who pulled out of the Pakistan series to make the trip next time around. “I’m sure this will certainly encourage others to sorts of taking decisions but then it is something which we can’t enforce it on them [to tour]. They took a decision and we have to respect that,” he said.
