Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad have made a comeback to Pakistan’s T20I side as they were named part of the 16-member squad that will take on Sri Lanka for the forthcoming series in Lahore. Following days of speculation about their imminent return to the lineup, the duo has finally been inducted by head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq in the squad.
The two have often been criticized for their disciplinary issues and inconsistent performances but this has not stopped them from impressive showings in the domestic circuit. Akmal last played a T20I for Pakistan three years ago but did turn up for the ODI side during the five-match series against Australia earlier this year.
Shehzad represented Pakistan in a T20I last year against Scotland but the selectors chose against persisting with him. The other addition to the squad is all-rounder Faheem Ashraf who missed on a spot in the World Cup.
Abid Ali, Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq are the three players currently part of the ODI side, who do not feature in the T20I lineup.
