Pakistan opening batsman Abid Ali was abruptly dropped from his side’s final World Cup squad but that decision has not dampened his spirits one bit as he smashed a terrific half-century upon return to the national team. The 32-year-old pummeled the Sri Lankan bowlers to the boundary fence on numerous occasions, helping Pakistan achieve a series-clinching victory in the final ODI in Karachi.
Abid was in top form as he brought magnificent shots to the fore that punished the visitors who failed to defend a challenging target of 298 amidst his onslaught.
Abid’s effortless drives were laced with supreme wristwork and he made the full use of the fielding restrictions in the first Powerplay to thread the inner circle on repeated occasions. He finally departed for a well-made 74 off 67 deliveries having put Pakistan into a dominant position to win the game.
