Dean Elgar struck an authoritative century on the third day of the Test series opener against India. The dogged left-handed batsman withstood the spin attack from India and tactfully negotiated the tough conditions on offer.
Elgar was eventually dismissed for a splendid 160, which allowed South Africa to stage a tremendous fightback following the mammoth total posted by India in the first innings.
Later, the 32-year-old commented that he had improved upon his game to tackle spin through a fruitful season in the County Championship.
"It's good to contribute once again. Playing in India is very tough. The last time I was here, I was very experienced. In those four years, I have grown a lot as a cricketer. I have played county cricket with Surrey, which has helped a lot," Elgar claimed. His knock often saw him jumping out of the crease to nullify the spin threat.
