India’s flamboyant all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja reached a career milestone that is now also the world record when he dismissed Dean Elgar on the third day of the first Test match in Vizag. Jadeja picked up his 200th wicket in the conventional five-day format with the prized scalp and became the fastest left-arm bowler to this landmark.
Taking just 44 Test matches to get 200 wickets, Jadeja has gone ahead of the likes of Rangana Herath, Wasim Akram (51 matches) and Mitchell Starc. Sri Lankan spin maestro Herath had achieved the same number of wickets in 47 games.
Among Indian bowlers, Jadeja is second-fastest to the 200-mark, being beaten by his fellow spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin, who took 200 wickets in 37 Test matches.
