Coming into the final day’s play of the opening Test match against India, South Africa wasn’t in a bad position as the first innings heroics allowed them to get in a good frame of drawing the game. However, paceman Mohammad Shami had other ideas as he ran riot to subdue the rainbow nation with a spectacular bowling performance.
The 29-year old player bowled brilliantly to break South Africa’s back to record his 5th five-wicket haul in the red-ball cricket. Particularly, the dismissals of Temba Bavuma, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock dented the hope of tourists. Shami’s bowling spell was full of sheer quality as he constantly targeted the stumps to bamboozle South Africa.
After replacing Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian Test team, the Uttar Pradesh born was under huge pressure to deliver and he didn’t disappoint. Shami was elated to contribute valiantly towards his team’s cause as he vowed to keep working hard and help the men in blue win many games.
