Umar Akmal has failed for the second time in succession in his latest comeback to the national side. Already burdened by the relentless criticism directed at him, the right-handed batsman once again faltered under pressure and perished for a golden duck – this time against leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga.
His path to redemption after a spate of controversies ranging from disciplinary issues to fitness concerns has met another obstacle with the second golden duck of the series. Coming at the back of tremendous performances in the domestic circuit, it seems Akmal will have to see another prolonged absence from the international arena with this string of failures.
His dismissal against Hasaranga featured him trying to go back and cut the ball, only for the googly to graze his pad right before the stumps. This score of nought has made Akmal equal the unwanted record of most number of ducks in T20I cricket, alongside Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan.
