South African pacer Dale Steyn will don the Melbourne Stars jersey in this year’s Big Bash League. Steyn, who announced his retirement from Test cricket in August, will be playing six matches in his debut season in the Australia’s premier T20 competition.
Steyn thus joins fellow South Africans AB de Villiers and Chris Morris in the BBL, with the pair earlier joining Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder respectively. While Steyn is currently signed for six games in the first half of the season, he has the option of extending his contract if the South African selectors decide against recalling him for the England series next year.
Steyn’s World Cup stint was cut short by a shoulder injury earlier in the summer when he returned home without playing a single game. Although he has made himself available for white-ball cricket, he was not selected for the T20I series in India recently.
